About the Department

The Department of Political science at Dr. B. R. Ambedkar College-Affiliated to the University of Kalyani, was founded in 1973 and provides NEP 2020 programs in Political Science;Major and minor.Political science departments emphasize the importance of understanding political theories, governmental structures, and the practical implications of political decisions. Students are encouraged to engage deeply with the material, fostering a classroom environment that prioritizes critical thinking and active participation. This method not only enhances their knowledge but also prepares them for real-world political and civic engagement. Throughout the academic year, the department organizes various activities and events to broaden the students' perspectives. These include seminars, debates, and guest lectures from distinguished political analysts and practitioners. Such events are designed to enrich the students' understanding of current political issues and trends, providing them with a comprehensive education that extends beyond the classroom. The students participate in mock parliaments. The faculty provides continuous support and guidance, ensuring that students can effectively navigate their research endeavors. The Department of Political Science at Dr. B. R. Ambedkar College strives to develop well-rounded individuals who are prepared to tackle the challenges of the modern political landscape. Since the students of the department are coming from different socio-economic backgrounds, some of the students suffer from discomfort and uneasiness, so the classroom environment, teaching method, etc, are concerned. Departmental teachers are very sensitive about such feelings and try to handle the less expressive students carefully. Most of the students are coming from Bengali-medium schools with poor writing, reading, and communicative skills in English. In order to motivate them and to make them habituated to the English language, teachers try to deliver class lectures through a bilingual medium. Remedial classes are arranged for the slow learners. Teachers are very careful to understand the weakness or the limitations of the slow learners and guide them to overcome their limitations towards the improvement of the result.

Vision:

Inspire the young minds to develop the habit of thinking of achieving creative excellence. Students gain abilities to critically assess contemporary political events and identify practical solutions to the social problem.
